Perth Trip - August 2019 π
A memorable Western Australia study tour adventure
Capturing the essence of my Perth adventure
I went to Perth in August 2019 and wanted to record this Western Australia journey. It was an incredible experience that I'll never forget! π
βοΈ Study Tour Experience
I came to the University of Western Australia with my school for a study tour, so I stayed in student accommodation at Trinity College, and meals were arranged by the school. However, I still went out to eat a few times on my own. I heard there's a popular Italian restaurant called Ciao, and it's a bit of a pity I didn't try it.
Food & Prices: Cheap meals can be under $10, while those in the city center cost $20-30 or more. The food mainly consists of fish and chips, steaks, and similar dishes.
βοΈ Week One Adventures

In the first week, we went to Whiteman Park to feed kangaroos, visited Kings Park and Swan Valley, and checked out the famous Blue Boat House. Since Manchester United was also in Perth at the time, the Blue Boat House was decorated as a red house, but I was fortunate to see its true blue appearance later. (Please ignore my ugly face in the photos π)
βοΈ Rottnest Island - The Highlight
Our study tour only had one day of free time, so my fantasies of visiting Pink Lake, Wave Rock, the little train, lobster farms... all fell through π. However, we finally chose to go to Rottnest Island, which was quite rewarding! π
π’ Getting There
We bought round-trip electronic ferry tickets on Fliggy, and then bought bus tickets after arriving on the island - very convenient!
π Island Experience
- The sea breeze was particularly strong
- Beautiful beaches everywhere
- Spotted sea lions in their natural habitat
- Met the adorable quokkas! (They're actually not mice π but short kangaroos π¦)
π Funny Moment
The most interesting thing happened during lunch: while we were watching quokkas, a seagull took advantage of our distraction to fly over and scatter half a plate of fries, which the quokka then picked up and ate. I seriously suspect they're in cahoots! π
βοΈ Week Two Explorations
In the second week, we strolled around London Court and had a long chat with an art shop owner there. At the Perth Mint, I touched some gold bars (incredibly heavy...) and also visited some laboratories at the University of Western Australia. I originally wanted to visit some wineries, but they were too far away, so we had to give up.
βοΈ Shopping & Souvenirs
Finally, I bought some health supplements to take back as gifts for the elderly π. Mainly from three brands: Swisse, Healthy Care, and Blackmores. Lanolin cream is cheap and effective - perfect as souvenirs!
βοΈ Life in Perth - A Different Pace
Overall, the pace of life here is very slow, and people get along quite harmoniously. The local culture really impressed me:
- Public Transport: When taking the bus, if you can't find your card or your card has no money, the driver won't rush you
- Courtesy: Local people habitually say thank you to the driver when getting off
- General Atmosphere: Everything feels very pleasant and relaxed βΊοΈ
π Final Thoughts
This Perth journey was more than just a trip - it was an eye-opening experience that showed me a different way of life. The combination of natural beauty, friendly people, and relaxed atmosphere made it truly unforgettable. Perth taught me to appreciate the slower pace of life and the importance of human connections.
